By Scott Melbrod
From an early age, I saw just how true the phrase “do what you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” is. My father had been a financial planner and tax preparer since the early 1970s. Over the course of his long career, he has seen it all and, more importantly, helped a lot of people along the way. I saw just how much he loved his job and how much joy he experienced from helping people. Along the way, he made friends with many of his clients.
Witnessing this, I truly came to appreciate what an impact sound financial advice can make in someone’s life. I was inspired to achieve the same: attain a job that allowed me to help others and feel satisfied.
In college, I studied finance and worked for an investment and insurance company. However, I still wasn’t 100% certain what I wanted to do with my career. During this time, my father’s business was growing and, with a desire to expand, needed to bring on a partner.
As fate would have it, I was just graduating from college. Instead of bringing in an outside partner, he thought it would be as good a time as any to allow me to experience financial advising for myself and see if I wanted to pursue this as a career. It’s one of the best decisions I made. In 2002, I joined my father’s business and I haven’t looked back since.
Building My Career
I worked with my father at his firm for more than a decade, eventually working my way up from an associate to the president to a managing partner. As much as I loved working with my father, I knew there would come a time when I would be ready for the next step of my career. Following in my father’s footsteps, I wanted to open and run my own firm.
In 2017, I founded Accumulation Wealth Partners with the goal of providing impactful and targeted financial advice at a transparent cost to people in the accumulation phase of their lives.
Over the years working with my father, I had the opportunity to work with so many people, all of whom were in different life phases and had different goals. I discovered that, all too often, financial firms were focused on helping pre-retirees. As a result, so many young people and Millennials weren’t aware of the importance of financial planning at an early age or felt they weren’t suited for an advisor.
I believe everyone deserves a structured plan to financial freedom delivered collaboratively and specifically tailored to their stage in life. In developing my firm, I decided I wanted to focus on serving hard-working people in the early and middle stages of their career. My goal is to help them make the most of their accumulation years so they can feel more prepared down the road as they experience different milestones, from purchasing a house to sending a child to college to retiring.
Just as my father loved his career, I love mine. While navigating and staying up-to-date with the industry and running a business is a time-consuming task, there’s nothing more fulfilling than helping people work toward financial freedom. My mission is to help people turn their weekdays into weekends earlier in life.
Regardless of the services or strategies I’m providing my clients, I hope the instill in them the confidence knowing they have a person to turn to with their financial questions. When they face a financial decision, I want them to know that I am here to help them.
